Timeline of Shank film trailer

Whilst watching the film trailer Shank to help plan my timeline for my groups film trailer I looked at how they used the one minute twenty-four seconds of their trailer. I chose to use this film trailer as it is under the genre of social realism and that is the genre of the film trailer my group would like to make. Overall there is a total of one hundred and forty one cuts through out the trailer. In the first five seconds there is a total of six cutes and the fist five seconds in include four titles that include institutions and other narrative information about the film. From five to twelve seconds there is seven cuts and in these cuts we get some narrative about the film and two characters are introduced this could suggest that they are the two characters that the film is primarily based around as they are introduced first. Then from twelve to twenty-two seconds there are sixteen cuts and within these cuts we see more narrative titles along with sound bridge of dialogue. A sound bridge of dialogue is where we hear a person talking and at first we assume  it is a voice over but we see that it goes to seeing someone talking in the next scene/cut this links the two cuts together. Between twenty-two to twenty-eight seconds there is twenty-three cuts, in these cuts there are narrative titles, a introduction into more characters and this time it is gangs that will take another lead role throughout the film. We also see the use of another sound bridge to link the two separate scenes. From twenty-eight seconds to forty-six seconds we see 16 cuts this suggests that there is less action between the eighteen second gap as there is less cuts then the previous gap before. At forty-six seconds we see another narrative title each telling the audience more and more about the film trailer and the storyline. In the next three second gap from forty-six seconds to forty-nine seconds we see three cuts and one includes another narrative title. Between fort-nine and fifty-two seconds we see seven cuts and two narrative film titles. Next from fifty-two seconds to one minute four seconds we witnessed fifteen cuts and at one minute four seconds we see another title but this a title of one of the stars included in the film. This is used to entice people to watch the film if they know the star from previous films, this helps attract more of an audience. The next title that includes a stars name is at one minute five seconds between the previous one at one minute four to this one there is a total of two cuts in the space of one second. Again at one minute six seconds there is yet again another title including a stars name that features in the film and agin we see two cuts, our next title is at one minute seven seconds and through the one second gap we only see one cut and again it is a title of a star that is in the film Shank. Between the last pause at one minute seven seconds the next one I stopped at one minute thirteen seconds and between this time there was sixteen cuts and at exactly one minute thirteen we see a title again but this title is the one that tells us the films name. The next pause is at one minute sixteen seconds after three seconds we see two cuts and at one minute sixteen seconds we see yet again other title of narrative about the film. We see from there to one minute seventeen seconds three cuts and another narrative title linked to the one before at one minute sixteen seconds. After two seconds taking us from one minute seventeen seconds to one minute nineteen seconds there is two cuts and at one minute nineteen seconds there is another narrative title about when the film is out to allow the audience to know when to go to see it. Finally at one minute twenty-two seconds see the billing board this stays in focus for two seconds which takes us the the end of the trailer but between one minute nineteen seconds to one minute twenty-two seconds we see four cuts this suggests that the action has faded out towards the end.
Overall there is eighteen titles and one billing block through out the one minute twenty-four seconds social realism film trailer Shank.

Plans For Our Film Magazine and Poster

This image shows our idea's in which we have suggested for both film poster and our film magazine.

Both are similar as the cover of each shall include each three main characters.

For this film poster we chose to plan it portait, This would look different to the a landscpae poster as it would be more square based but more pushed together. By planning the film poster in both ways it has given us two different choices, i like the landscape layout as it is different and not many film posters are used this way accept as bilboards. Yet the portrait layout looks more realsistic and could be much bolder and stronger looking when targeting the target audience.

Both of these two image shows two different layouts of our film poster. The second image shows a rough layout of how the poster would look being at a  landscape layout. This poster shows the titles at the top i.e. actors who are starring within the film, the three characters in the centre but used across the whole page and then the film title placed at the bottom of the poster.

Final Film Ideas

This is our final film idea. We decided to contribute together two film ideas which will make the genre of our film social realism, we decided on linking together idea one which was a story of mean girls and how they bully linked with idea 4 on gangs and killing. These linked together will work well and add tension, yet we will add another twist which shall be making the rest of the school/ year group hate the three popular girls. We have also  written down the information of our film narrative and the use of locations, characters, costume, camera angles and extra techniques we shall involve.

initial film ideas

We came up with four basic film ideas. We decided on idea number one, even though it is very similar to the real mean girls movie we have decided to change the genre and storyline.

Collage of social realism posters

This collage is of social realism film posters, these film are ones in which have been made to portray the societies in which we live. The majority of these films are set in areas and places that some of the audiences can relate to, we see council estates, flats, run down and derelict buildings, along with these settings, audiences may also relate to the informal language used through out and they can also relate to the clothes worn. The narrative behind social realism films is depressing and a happy resolution that what Todorov based his theory upon of  the equilibrium, disequilibrium and resolution. For example kidulthood has a tragic ending with the main character being murdered. Another convention of the social realism film is that the actors are not what you would usually see in various other films as they are not clean cut, muscley and american. This like this to seem more realistic the film genre and conventions. .

Film Genre Trailers

Thriller

Paranormal Activity 4

The purpose of the paranormal activity 4 trailer is to promote the film and genre with in this case is thriller. You can tell that the genre is thriller due to the jumpy bits being incorporated in the trailer, it has you at the edge of you seats it also keeps you watching. This film would be target at people at between the age of 17-25, this is due to the characters, story line and genre of the film. The trailer would also give active audiences a first hand experience to go see the film that would then go and make them see it more.
The narrative of the film trailer is that you see a girl talking to her mum about strange happens in the house which is then linked with the showings of the previous film history. Then we see the young girl on skype to a boy and from there we see a young boy standing on her drive just staring at the house and we see the boy look at the girl and the outside light goes off. We then hear the house security alarm say "front door open, back door open" then we see a figure behind the girl and then it goes fuzzy and finishes this leaves you in suspense.
There are no famous stars in the film trailer of paranormal activity 4.
The editing used in the film are fast paced cuts when they show the clips of paranormal activity 3, then slow paced cuts when the girl is talking to her mum, then the start of when she is on skype to the boy then as it progresses the cut pace increases again building up the tension this is when it goes to black and trailer is finished. There is also the fuzzy element which acts as if it is filmed by her and the perspective through the skype camera.
The dialogue in the trailer is informal and this seems as if it is just a ordinary film without too much of an in depth meaning to the  film, this also helps establish the target audience. The dialogue is informal this also represents the link and familiarity to everyday life.
There are various different camera angles used in the film trailer of paranormal activity 4, this consisted of close ups, extreme close ups, mid shots, point of view shots etc. These various camera angles allow you to feel certain feelings at the points of the film.
There are 7 titles shown throughout the film trailer these titles appear on a pure black background with white writing that looks typed on a type writer.
There is no voice over in the trailer of paranormal activity 4.
There is no background music in the film trailer but there is a noise that sounds like a disconnection this happens when you you see the fuzziness on screen.
The climax of the trailer is when the girl is on skype to the boy and the strange happenings are taking place. Then the climax is when the girl actually gets taken by the dark figure we see in the background and then it goes to black.
There are  7 characters in the film trailer of paranormal activity 4 along with 54 cuts and 14 different settings throughout the trailer.

Comedy

Step Brothers

The purpose of the film trailer is to promote the comedy side of the film to active and passive audiences, this also helps establish the target audience which I would say is boys aged been 17-25 as the humour used and the things they talk about and the situations they are in. From the trailer we can already see that the film is going to be in comedy genre.
The narrative of the film trailer step brothers is two mens parents fall in love get married and then they move in together. At the first the men hate each other  then they get closer, help each other in need and become best friends.
The stars in the film trailer step brothers are Will Ferrell and John C Riley these both play the brothers.
The editing in the film trailer consists of slow paced cuts this represents that there is no official climax of the trailer as there is no fast paced cuts thats would expect to you feel tension and anxiety.
The dialogue in the film is once again in formal as they use rude language, talk about rude things, and the way they talk to each other and the interviewer it shows that they are immature and don't really act their age as they have always got what they wanted.
The camera angles in the film trailers are long shots, mid shots, and close ups. This shows you strange facial expressions this allows you to tell you when to laugh etc.
The titles in the film trailer consist of a blue background with white writing.
There is no voice over in the film trailer.

Film Magazine Front Covers

The purpose of a film magazine is to promote films that are near to release to allow active audiences to want to go and watch the film. Another purpose of a film magazine is to keep active audiences in the loop with any information about stars, producers and directors, this would allow an active film audience to feel as if they know about the industry it would also make the characters seem more realistic to the audience. The film magazine allows them to always be updated with a monthly magazine so they can work out what would interest them to go and see along with feeling as if they know more about the story line that what a passive audience would.
From looking at the front cover you can see that a well known film actress Megan Fox is on the front cover although you can see she is female you may assume that she is targeting females but really it is targeted at a male audience as it is a male fantasy to see Megan Fox in a "slutty" cheerleading uniform. The way she is dressed you would assume that the film is a teen film and then as you study the film magazine cover more you notice that she has blood all on her hand along with it dripped next to her that makes you think that the film has a more of a thriller aspect to it than a comedy that you may think first off.
The masthead of the film magazine is large and in a bright colour which stand out compared to the white background. The main star Megan Fox is also in front of the masthead this is due to the film magazine being well known to active audiences so they will immediately know the film magazine. This could show that the character is more in your face as she is in front of the masthead.
Although the film magazine mainly promotes one film from the main image it also promotes other key elements inside the magazine with the three little pictures at the top of the magazine that you will see whilst looking at the masthead.
The cover lines on the magazine do not come across onto the main central image and this does not take away the importance of the main film they are promoting. The cover lines stay the the left and right of the cover and the main parts are in colour like the red and blue that link with the colour scheme of the whole magazine front cover, this allows you to relate more.
The mode of address is quite informal as they use words such as "A ton of exclusives" and 'The Gigantic Hobbit" this shows they haven't used formal words. They have also made reference to twitter with the hash tags and the fact they relate to Facebook this also links to the fact that many people who buy the magazine also may be on these social networking sites. These again promotes the fact that the language used is informal this could also relate to a wider audience with this use of mode of address.
The unique selling point of this magazine is the fact that on the magazine it says "Our biggest preview ever" this would interest the audience more to buy it they maybe they would if it was just another usual monthly magazine. This would get more sales on the magazine along with more interest.

St. Trinians

There are many purposes of the St. Trinians film trailer one of the purposes is to promote the film to the target audience that is shown to be girls that are between the age of 13 to 17. This is shown by the pink background when the titles come up throughout, the majority of the cast being female and with their hair and makeup done at all times the way they wear their uniform, the pink colour of the paintballs and the way they wear their hockey uniform. Another purpose of the film trailer is to promote the comedy genre that the film is set in, its promoted this genre by what the girls say e.g. "You was only suppose to blow the bloody doors off." This suggests the element of comedy and also the way they pull pranks on the new girl which we see in the end they make into one of them. We also see/hear the new girl say "It's like Hogwarts for pikeys" this promotes comedy.

The narrative of the film trailer shows that the school goes from being one of the worsts schools in the country which is in debt to the bank and near to closing down to the students and teachers all working together to keep the school going. In the trailer you see them coming up with ideas to make sure the school survives.

There are many stars in the St. Trinians film trailer which include;
* Russell Brand who plays the handy man who dispatches goods the students use he also helps the students come up with a plan to save the school.
* Colin Firth who plays the Prime Minister who wants to turn the school around from bad to good.
* Rupet Everett who plays the head teacher and the new girls dad.
* Stephen Fry who plays the quiz master in the school challenge.
* Gemma Arterton who plays the head girl in the film who comes up with the idea to steal the famous picture.

In the film trailer there is various cuts, split screens, backouts, and pyrotechnics this shows various editing techniques used to keep the audiences locked in and to also add more of a thrill to the film and to make you wonder what will happen next. This  makes the film trailer more appealing to the audience and that makes them actually want to go see the whole film at the cinema when it is out.

There is also various amounts of camera angles also included in the St Trinians film trailer which include close ups, mid shots, long shots, point of view and establishing shots. The use of the close up allows you to see the expressing on the characters face whether that is to shows concern, fear or happiness. The use of the establishing shows allows the audience to see where certain scenes are based to create more of an awareness or familiarity. Finally the use of a point of view shot is to allow the audience to feel as if they was there and one of the characters.

There are 8 titles that appear in the St Trinians film trailer that all appear on a pink background with black writing except for the billing block that appears on a pink background with white writing at the end. This enhances that is it targeted at girls.

The non-diegetic music of the film trailer enhances the climax of the trailer as when theres a spooky feel the music changes to that and when there is tension the music changes. This links well to how the audience would feel at them given points and also is a clue on when its funny and not etc. The use of non-diegetic music allows you to feel certain ways by the influenced but majority of music.  The non-deigetic music is still played even through dialogue but quieter to still produce an element of fun that links in with the dialogue spoken. The diegetic sounds of the explosion makes the scene seem more realistic and when she hits her face on the door, as well as it making it more realistic it makes the audience feel as if they are in the scene.

The number of settings shown in the St Trinians film trailer is 28 different settings this makes it looks less boring than what it would if it was filmed all in the same place which would make the audience uninterested.

In the film trailer for St Trinians there are many characters shown some who are famous others who aren't but the majority of the characters are female also relating back to the target audience.

There is 113 cuts within the film trailer they are used to create more tension and; to keep the audience hooked.
