The majority of these films are set in areas and places that some of the audiences can relate to, we see council estates, flats, run down and derelict buildings, along with these settings, audiences may also relate to the informal language used through out and they can also relate to the clothes worn. The narrative behind social realism films is depressing and a happy resolution that what Todorov based his theory upon of the equilibrium, disequilibrium and resolution. For example kidulthood has a tragic ending with the main character being murdered. Another convention of the social realism film is that the actors are not what you would usually see in various other films as they are not clean cut, muscley and american. This like this to seem more realistic the film genre and conventions. .
