Thriller film trailers

The Roommate
After we decided to change our film genre and the animatic we the done further research into our new genre which was thriller but instead of doing a thriller such as saw, nightmare on elm street we decided as a group to go for a more psychological thriller where it takes a more logical approach in working out who is the antagonist is and letting short clips of what would be shown in the trailer not give too much of the storyline away. When looking at this film trailer we got gripped into the story line and then from there decided that we wanted to make a film trailer that was influenced by this film. We also became easily hooked into the story line, this showed us how we would then later be able to hook our audience making them, then want to go out and watch the whole film themselves. Going on to the more editorial side of the trailer we accounted for many cuts both fast paced when adding tension and then at a slower pace to portray a calmer feeling amongst the viewers this hen allowed the fast paced cuts to build the tension back up and get the audience on the edge of their seats, this was a key concept of the film that we then wanted to take into account for our own trailer. Another key feature that we wanted to use also was that both the main characters look like good looking average girls which made it harder to see where the film was going and made us shocked at the direction it took, we thought this was a good quality as the audience see a killer being have a certain look, whereas this took longer to work out. The titles in the film are on black backgrounds that suggest something dark and sinister with the sense of not knowing then this feeling seems to get taken away somewhat with the white titles that can seem to suggest purity and the pureness, these titles can seem to be not conventional as we would conventionally see usually red titles that suggest blood so they have gone against the convention and in this case it has seemed to have worked well.

Obsessed
we liked this film trailer due to the fact it had a stalker affect, the way in which we see, the blonde women become more and more obsessed with the man. The way in which we also see the storyline progress through the trailer. The way in which the fast paced cuts in the beginning of the trailer get you more into the trailer than what you would if the cuts were slow paced, in the first couple of cuts we see an establishing shots of different landmarks, this showing us where the film is set. From this it goes into white titles on a black screen with the titles turning to a pink colour this could symbolise the purity of the white turning to the passion of the pink colour. These titles give parts of the storyline away and also helps to understand what is going on within the cuts and the trailer. From the original fast paced cuts they then going into slower paced cuts to show the story unfold then they go back into fast paced cuts when  we see the female fighting this is to keep the audience locked in and to stop them thinking is boring. Throughout the trailer we hear the use of diegetic and no diegetic sounds, the diegetic sounds come from conversations within the trailer between characters this makes us the character feel involved. the non diegetic sounds come from the background music here we hear a heart beat this raises concern, also the other non diegetic music is used to keep make the audience sit on the edge of their seats with them wanting to know what is going to happen. Overall I think this trailer works well and is conventional in most parts except for the two female characters when you expect to see a more male dominated genre who is seen as the stalker and the titles.
